How To Choose An Autoresponder

There is a clarion call of advise out there on how to choose an autoresponder to automate your business when you start affiliate marketing. Most of it drivel written primarily to build the authors downline in one service or another. Cool, they’re marketing – I get that. But it is not very helpful to someone trying to figure out the best autoresponder solution for thier business. Nor is it an honest approach to giving help.

Many of the programs for affiliate marketing and list building programs or sites will start to feel like a trap when you find it doesn’t integrate with your particular autoresponder. And it will happen if you stick with this. Don’t get bent out of shape about this. It really doesn’t matter. What matters is that you pick one, load up some emails into it and start collecting email addresses to which you can market your affiliate offers.

Suggestions On How To Choose An Autoresponder

Now my advise here is based on the viewpoint of a software junkie, if I haven’t tried them all it is only because I haven’t seen the link to a particular one! Stay with a reputable company, don’t ever spam the folks on your list, and get to work. You’ll be fine.

Paid Services
  1.  Aweber – Great company with top notch customer support. Very helpful people and tons of helpful material to assist you in learning. They have monthly fees or longer terms with price breaks. Aweber probably integrates with the most services which is a big plus. Easy to learn dashboard makes for a pleasant learning curve.
  2. TrafficWave – Best pricing and they cater to affiliate marketers. Resources are good and the support is great.
Free Services
  1. Mailchimp – Actually a paid service, but they have a free plan to 2000 subscribers which can be helpful. No tech support for the free plan, but a great service.
  2. Lead’s Leap List Builder – Actually a list building program. It is a great place to get started while you learn. The reason I include it here is because they will give you an autoresponder program that you install on your own domain. It works great, but this option requires not being afraid to do the install of the program.

Building a Website – Start Affiliate Marketing Today II

In this article we are going to examine building a website. There are many ways to do this: write your own code, use any of hundreds of proprietary site building softwares, hire it done. I am going to discuss the most common solution, it is also the easiest.

I am talking about WordPress. If you would like more information on WP in general I recommend that you read the overview on Wikipedia. Do it later… Right now, let’s get your site up and running.

You will choose the way your site looks with themes, and set how it does things with plugins. Don’t worry about all of the terms and techno-babble, you will pick up what you need as we progress. This is the reason you should use WordPress, it is easily done by anyone with basic computer skills.

Here are the basic expenses:

Number 1Domain Name – approximately $14 per year. Always deals here, stay with GoDaddy if your are new, You can also usually get a domain name from your hosting provider, but GoDaddy is easier to find new names and is helpful in the process.

Number 2Hosting – approximately $5 per month (only use cPanel based hosting, again the most common). There are many options out there for hosting, there’s cheap and there’s cheap, if you know what I mean. Shop around. Two great options (I host sites with both): HostGator and KVC

HostGator - Penny Hosting To Build A Website

Number 3That’s it… really that’s all you need to get started in building a website. That’s the beauty of WordPress based sites. You will find hundreds if not thousands of themes and plug ins for sale, but there are so very many that are free, and very effective. You do not have to spend more money here. I will be covering useful plugins later so stay in touch.

The actual steps involved in building a website will be as follows:

  • Have your content ready in folders you can easily find. If you are new to this I would suggest making a folder on your desktop with your domain name as the folder name. Inside that folder make three other folders: Images, Articles, Links
    • Images obviously will contain the visual elements you want on your site. Stay with .jpg , .jpeg , .gif , and .png  file types.
    • Articles will have the text you wish to have on site. Have a minimum of three good articles ready, five is better, and ten would be best!
    • Links in this you will keep the links and codes you wind up with, advertising banners, autoresponder forms, Google Adsense, FaceBook… etc. Don’t be concerned about the sound of that, you will be glad to have everything concerning your site in one location, and you will know the reason for what things you file here.
  • Now let’s put the domain name and hosting together and get our site up. Once your hosting is set up, Log into your cPanel.

It will look something like this.

  • After logging in you will be at your main control panel.  Scroll to the bottom until you find Softaculus Apps Installer then find and click the little WordPress icon –

WordPress logo

  • You will find yourself here, just click the install now button in the lower right part of the screen.

WordPress Install

  • You will be taken to a screen to put in the basic set up and naming for your site. It will look something like the following:

WordPress Install

The most important thing here is to consider when building a website here is what directory you want your blog to be in. For instance, if you wish your blog to be on the main directory you would leave the “in directory” field empty. So your blog would show up in “”.

Use this option for now and we will cover other options later.

Under Site Settings put in the site name and a short description using keywords if possible. If unsure about keywords do not let that slow you down. This can be changed later and SEO (search engine optimization) will be covered in following articles.

Softaculous WP Site Name and AdminIn the Admin Account put in your username and password – do better than “admin” for the user name and keep in mind that the better the password the better the security. Remember, this will be your log in information for the site so write it down.

You will also want to put in an email address using the username you decided on.  You will have to set up this email address through your c-panel and don’t forget to check it regularly!

Now pick a theme as shown in the photo below, you can change it later!

Softaculous WP Install Finish

Now scroll down and click the final Install button and you are done!

An installation confirmation window will show up next to verify your new site and it is time to log in and start affiliate marketing!

Hope this is helpful. Keep in mind, different browsers can show things differently and you may find a different path to install WordPress on your particular c-panel. Read your screen carefully and you will find it actually is click through easy to build a website.

Tip #6: Put your squeeze page url on your business card. — Instead of just putting a plain email contact and website URL on your business card, also provide a link where people can download a free report. This allows your potential customers to get to know you before they speak with you on the phone.

How is this important? This gives potential clients the ability to know what you can do for them. By allowing them to download your free report, you give them the chance to see how you can solve their problems.

Tip #7: Create a “Free Resources” tab on your blog. — This allows you to provide free resources with your affiliate link embedded on each affiliate product you want to recommend to your audience.

Tip #8: Utilize relevant PLR products as special bonuses when you recommend affiliate products. — Consider NOT including PLR rights or Master Resale Rights on the bonuses you give away as part of your bonuses. This will help you to maintain the value of each product you are giving away to your audience.

Tip #9: Use Surveys as a way to find out what your audience wants from you. — Ask your audience what three challenges they face in their business or niche. This way you can know the types of articles, information, and affiliate products you should offer to your audience.

Tip #10: Add One or Two Extra Bonuses on Each Product You Release. — You should always be different than other marketers. By adding one or two extra bonuses, your product offers will stand out compared to other products. Power Tip: You can always utilize PLR products as a way to provide bonuses to your audience.

  Affiliate Marketing Tips

 5 Affiliate Marketing Tips:

Tip #1: Always use one domain name to sell  your affiliate offers.
— This allows you to brand your domain name for different purpose in the future.
In addition, it will look much better when you show your audience a referral link
such as:

Tip #2: Brand Your Main Domain Name. — Branding is basically building
a trust level within both your customer base and the online community you are working
within. It can start with believing in your products. You will see this reflected in higher
sales conversions for your product offer. So with branding in mind, think about an appropriate
domain name for your business. Take your time and consider how you can create
mass appeal for your business.

Tip #3: Learn to use a signature file for all of your outgoing email. — Fancy term for a P.S…
something like… “P.S. Did you download your free report? If not, get it here:
{Your Squeeze Page URL}”.

Tip #4: Link One Product to Another On Download Page or Thank You Page
— This is very important, especially if you are utilizing one domain name for all.
For me personally, the best way to show your other products would be on the
download page. Sales will rise as you indirectly make related offers to your existing buyers.

Tip #5: Always try to get the .com extension for your main domain name. — This is
very important. So, if you decide to brand your domain name, always get one that
starts with .com extension.

Learn Ad Techniques From Your Purchases

Confession here… I have been on a buying spree the last month and that is not necessarily a bad thing. I’ve always been a die hard software junky and automation nut and there have been some great software products coming out lately. And these purchases are also a great way to learn ad techniques. So I took the plunge and purchased several. Among these purchases were some affiliate marketing strategies, most noteworthy one in particular really stood out – 8 Minute Profits.

8 Minute Profits - Learn Ad Techniques

If you are looking to add a new, effective list building and affiliate marketing strategy, this is definitely one to get.

  • It is a real ah-ha moment. You will wonder why you didn’t think of it yourself if you have been doing this for awhile.
  • Extremely well laid out training. He tells you what to do and where to do it. It is a simple strategy and you can literally have it up and running today.
  • All you need is an offer and your autoresponder.
  • It is cheap.

I cannot brag on this one enough… It is just a superb idea, and easy to set into motion. Get it.  You won’t be sorry with this one.

And that brings me to my main point in this article. When you make purchases, use them to learn ad techniques. From the way the lead capture is set up to the product delivery page, you can learn a lot about how to build an ad campaign for yourself.

Here is a list of things in the ad to consider as you make an affiliate marketing product purchase.

  • Colors and text formatting – keeping both consistent throughout your pages will improve response.
  • How the lead capture is preformed – is it the first step on a dedicated page, or a pop up on the main sales page, etc.
  • If you are buying through an affiliate – did she/he direct you to a bonus/presell page first? Power Tip: Do this, this gives you a chance to add a potential buyer to your list.
  • Study the lay out of the main sales page – note where the different elements are located. Bullet lists, videos, testimonies, buy buttons, all of these can have an impact on the effectiveness of your ad campaign.
  • Take a look at the entire sales funnel – even if you are only buying the main product, and take a close look at the one time offers, upsells and downsells and see how it is all put together. Power Tip: If you are on a OTO page (one time offer) and you get to the bottom link that says “no thanks, I don’t want this. Take me to my purchase.” Right click the link and select open in a new tab and you may get a discounted price for the OTO – a downsell.
  • Draw the funnel out as you go through it, this will give you a visual reference to go back to as you learn ad techniques you wish to include in your own campaigns.
